"Time: Blank Verse"
Periods and commas at lines 2 and 12 (MS IA), line 24 (MS III)—These commas and periods are placed too high, above the baseline, a difficulty characteristic of Ruskinʼs early, 1826–27 hand, both in print and cursive, pencil and ink; see Editorial and Encoding Rationale and Methodology: Commas, Periods, and Other Punctuation.

“them” (MS IA)—A descender appears on the m in them, probably indicating that Ruskin or someone else attempted to correct the pronoun to form they. The correction is carried over to the MS III witness of the poem.

“newyearsday” (MS III)—Ruskin writes newyearsday as ew‐ears‐ay in the MS IA witness of the poem, suggesting that, here, the words may be deliberately run togther.

“Newyearsday” (MS III)—Here it is unclear whether Ruskin intended to write Newyearsday or New years day. In the MS IA witness of the poem, he writes ew ears ay, separating the words with distinct spaces and capital letters.
